Port Charlotte wire wrapping guru Diana Hereda Reinhard will be at "GALLERY 122 WEST" in Arcadia this Saturday demonstrating techniques for creating distinctive wire wrapped rings, pendants and other jewelry.

The retired Rockville, Maryland school teacher has been creating "wearable art" for more than 25 years. Working with artists in Baltimore, she learned methods for crafting jewelry from paper and fabric. From there, she graduated to dichroic glass, wire wrapping and PMC. Now Ms. Reinhard returns the favor by regularly teaching classes on wire wrapping and wearable art techniques.

Wrapped jewelry typically incorporates dichroic glass, sea glass, carved bone druzy, crystal, opals, turquoise, jade and jasper. On Saturday, Ms. Reinhard will be wrapping cabochons, which are faceted or shaped stones. Please call owner Marc Washicheck at 863-993-2344 for demonstration times.

Ms. Reinhard's wire wrapping demonstrations coincide with the famed Arcadia Antiques Fair, which is being held on the third Saturday of the month in recognition that the fourth Saturday in December falls on Christmas this year. Upwards of 200 individual vendors are expected to convert the four-block historic downtown antique district into an outdoor bazaar with tables, booths and kiosks jammed into every nook and cranny of the sidewalks, parks and parking lots bordering Oak Street. In addition, more than two dozen exemplary antique shops will be open for business. Antique lovers can choose from vintage and primitives, Shabby Chic and period pieces for last minute stocking stuffers and gift ideas.

"GALLERY 122 WEST" opened in October and showcases original works of art from 26 local artists, including Bill Gimbel, Bruce Brayton and Michael Vires. The oils, acrylics, pastels, pen-and-ink drawings and sculpture on display in the environmentally-responsible gallery, which was assembled from recycled materials, are bathed in bountiful natural light provided by a 100-year-old skylight and large-pane street-side windows.

You'll find "GALLERY 122 WEST" at 122 West Oak Street in Arcadia's century-old Cherry Hill Building.
