Cherry Hill For Sale
All About Cherry Hill Antiques
Everything You Ever Wanted To Know
And Some you Don't.

Cherry Hill Antiques is FOR SALE. I, Marc Washicheck, have been doing this for a long time and want to venture into something totally new, different and exciting. As you will see from this business history I was always an entrepreneur even way back in 1980. I was always trying something new, improving, changing, growing, expanding and of coarse learning. This is still true in present day with the creation of this premire website and the educational antique seminars.

Cherry Hill Country Road Show started in 1980 as an arts and crafts home party business in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Everything sold was made by me or my mother. I named it Cherry Hill because I lived on a large hill with numerous Cherry Trees which I planted. We added the Country Road Show to our name because we are bohemian (Gypsies) and history taught us they traveled from town to town showing their wares and performing. In a sense we did the same thing. We went from town to town demonstrating and selling our wares. The business soon outgrew my apartment and I had to open a small 300 square foot store on the south side of Milwaukee called Bayview. Bayview is a very fashionable, beautiful old neighborhood right on Lake Michigan. It wasn't long before I had a full time Store Manager/ painter, 2 other full time people and 6 part time students which undercoated, sanded, stained, cleaned and whatever else was needed. I also had 4 demonstrators out 6 days a week selling at home parties and selling wholesale to local stores and large department stores. We became so busy we couldn't keep up with the orders so we had to start selling some purchased items such as quilts, jewelry, potpourri, candles, soaps etc.

After 39 years and growing up in Wisconsin I was very tired of the cold and snow so I decided to move to Florida. The last winter I lived in Milwaukee it snowed almost everyday. I had to shovel snow three times a day.

In 1994 I moved to Florida and opened a booth at a flea market in Punta Gorda. That is where I met well known antique dealer Christie Agulair. Christie taught me a lot about antiques and antique dealers and we developed a mutual respected friendship. I also met another wonderful antique dealer who owned one of the first antique stores in Arcadia and rented some space with her. In order to get an array of customers I rented a room in a little gift shop on Placida, and a large space in a mall in Fort Myers. That was in about 1996. It didn't take long to outgrow them so I opened a 6000 square foot store in Port Charlotte. After a year I decided Arcadia had much potential and rented a space in the Old Opera House, which just opened their doors and was the first to rent space in Arcadia. I was there until a new place was opening and it sounded great. I moved into the Veranda House which was an old southern apartment building with 8 apartments. Each apartment was made into a little quant shop. I wanted to get uptown so I left the Veranda House and moved uptown next to the Hot Fudge Shop until The Mundell building became available. I wanted that building for a long time and my dream came true in 1999. I moved in, used $600.00 in paint, opened within 2 weeks and have been there ever since.

I was dabbling in antiques all the while but when I rented The Mundell building I had room to grow into a complete antique store. I have had up to 30 antique merchants renting space at one time. I have been very blessed. Most of the renters stay 3, 4 and some are still here after 7 years.

Hurricane Charley, Jean and Francis came through on August 13 2004 and really redecorated the store. The entire store had to be gutted, demolded and put back together. We were out of that store for 11 months but relocated for the short term right next door in a 980 square foot store which I also rented and is attached to the main store. It was worth the wait with the new walls, ceiling, lighting, carpeting, air conditioning etc. There was even a bonus. They found a few cute windows under the walls and opened them up too.

The Mundell building (Cherry Hill's location) is a very old building from about 1920. It was built as a Cadillac dealership, than became the first bank in DeSoto County. After the bank closed the building became Cavas bar. Sometime in that era, the upstairs was a house of prostitution. In 1955 the current owners bought the building and ran their bookkeeping service until I rented it in 1999. This interesting building is great because you can walk into both original vaults and one even has the original vault door. Customers love to walk and shop in the vaults.

But it is time for a change. The great thing with Cherry Hill Antiques is not only the Antique retail store but also includes the Antique Seminar business (Cherry Hill Collectors Club Antique Educational Seminars) and this huge premier established website. This would be a great business for a couple or partners. It has become too big for me alone. The great advantage with Cherry Hill Antiques is you can be selling and making money even if you're not open. You are selling all over the world.

The seminar business has grown too. Not only are we hosting seminars in the 980 square foot room next door to Cherry Hill Antiques, but we also go on location to produce seminars. All seminars are taped and sold which means we grew into Cherry Hill Seminar Productions which is part of Cherry Hill Seminar University. It just keeps growing and going on and on. This is another premier business and there isn't another antique seminar business like this one in all of the United States.

There are many reasons why people shop Cherry Hill Antiques. They have a variety of wonderful Antique Merchants, huge selection of product, tastes, styles and fair prices. Cherry Hill carries everything from Primitives to Retro, M. A. Hadley to Royal Doulton, Linens to Quilts, Hull to Roseville, Oil Paintings to Paint by Number, Shabby Chic to Cottage Style, ``Marc Art to Fine Art and even a year round Christmas shop. It will be hard to make a decision of what to buy; there is such a big selection and fair prices.

Decorating abounds at Cherry Hill. All booths are organized, colorized, merchandised, and decorated. Be sure you look up when you enter the store. There is usually as much hanging from the ceiling as on the floor, which includes decorated ladders, porch swings, screen doors, windows, and old signs. Customers are heard commenting on the ''High Comfort Level'' and how ''Visually Stimulating'' the store is, with the decorating, lightly scented candles or potpourri, and swing music playing. Many times people are dancing in the back or taking pictures of the decorations and decorating ideas. Cherry Hill is a fun, relaxing and unique store.

But wait there's more reasons to shop Cherry Hill Antiques. That reason is Arcadia itself. There are about 30 antique stores and restaurants on Oak Street, a Hot Fudge Shoppe, and a few specialty shops. If you are a real shopper, it will take 2 days to discover all the treasures to be found. Arcadia was voted ''Florida's Best Antiquing Town''.

Cherry Hill Antiques is a well known respected name in retail and antiques. They have a very good working relationship with all the local papers, antique papers and magazines and stores (antique and non antiques) in Florida and throughout the country.

Below you will find a list of what is included in the sale of this business. Remember it's not just an antique store. It is so much more. There isn't another antique store anywhere that has so many businesses of this type wrapped into one. They all compliment each other and each part brings business to the other parts.

NOTICE The building is not for sale.
